Tim Ferriss is the author of 4-Hour Workweek which was on the Best Seller List for 7 consecutive years.
He next books, the 4-Hour Body and the 4-Hour Chef both became instant bestsellers.
He’s an angel investor and / or advisor to Facebook, Twitter, Stumbleupon, Evernote and Uber, among other companies.
Here are Tim’s top ten rules for success.
1 Have other interests outside of your business. Your self worth is not tied to just your start up.
2 Pursue your interests when selling. Don’t try to sell something you have absolutely no interest in.
3 Learn the art of the pitch. Learn how to sell by telling your story and know how to use unpaid and paid exposure.
4 Focus on your strengths. If you are good at something like copy writing then hone your skill set until you become great at it. Delegate and out source whenever possible.
5 Be able to sell. Marketing is about communication so to improve in this area improve your writing skills. As Tim says writing is thought crystallised for later review.
6 Ideas are worth nothing without being able to execute them.
7 Pick the right thing to do: being effective is more important than being efficient.
8 Be pragmatically pessimistic. Hope for the best but prepare for the worse.
9 Focused metric. What this means is have goals that you want to achieve within a certain time frame.
10 Use failure to help you. In NLP terminology there is no failure only feedback. Use your results for course correction.
