To keep your readership (and search engines of course) happy, new and fresh content should be added to your blog regularly, but what do you do when the well of ideas runs dry? This article may give some pointers on how to keep the momentum going when blogging on a regular or daily basis.
Firstly you need to blog about a topic or theme that can hold your attention (as well as your readers) for an ongoing blogging series. The subject matter must be something that you are passionate about or at least can hold a sustained interest in. And if you need to get the ball rolling I suggest checking out what other bloggers are writing about in your chosen niche.
You can find blog ideas by searching [your niche] and blog in Google.
joining forums in and around your subject areas should give you a pretty good idea of what questions people need answering; people are always searching the web looking for solutions to problems or you know just to be informed or entertained. A blog can be versatile enough to cover a multitude of approaches to answering questions, imparting wisdom or just good old fashioned opinionated waffle.
But of course you want to model others blogs not just copy or plagiarise somebody else’s content
Probably the greatest piece of advice I’ve received about coming up with blogging content has come from network marketing and blogging legend Ray Higdon. Ray has stated that the best way to never run out of blog content is to really immerse yourself in your subject and niche market. If you can become an expert in your field you can write consistently and congruently with authority over a prolonged period of time.
When I say congruent I mean your blog series should hold together thematically, the same ball park if you will. A blog thats all about Internet marketing for instance can easily accommodate and splinter off SEO, blogging, affiliate programs etc, whereas a blog about golf really shouldn’t have blog posts about say dog grooming. If you do have several unrelated passions then may be try posting on different blogs. It’s not unheard of for people to have more than one blog.
Finally be consistent. The best way to never run out of blog post ideas is to blog regularly. If you’re always writing you’re always thinking and if you can write consistently your subject matter is never far from sight or out of mind. Kind of like (mental) muscle memory.
